 The Montessori Philosophy
Minimize

Montessori is an educational philosophy developed by Dr. Maria Montessori at the turn of the twentieth century.  Dr. Montessori said of her philosophy, “Our aim is not merely to make the child understand, and still less to force him to memorize, but so to touch his imagination as to enthuse him to his innermost core.  We do not want complacent pupils, but eager ones.” And,

”Education is a natural process spontaneously carried out by the human individual and is acquired not by listening to words, but by experiences in the environment.”

Our philosophy is based on love and respect for each child.  We understand and accept that each child is a special and unique individual and a beautiful gift entrusted into our care.  Our warm and loving home environment provides the love and joy of learning and allows and encourages each child to realize his/her fullest potential in all areas of life.

The goal of the Montessori teacher is to guide the child in the development of concentration, coordination, order and independence.  The teacher does this by offering work which encourages this development.  Children learn complex concepts through the use of simple concrete materials.  Every activity in a Montessori classroom must be designed to work on these areas

Development in the areas of concentration, coordination, order and independence depends upon lessons in which every detail is quite deliberate.  The goal of the lessons is to direct the child’s attention to a specific work, to entice him to repeat the work and to promote mastery of the given work.
